getting a few things done around the office
Submitted by redstone underground
A winter of slow days is not good, but a few slow days in Spring are always welcome. I’ve been spending the last few days getting some work done. Fun stuff, too.
I got Jefe’s wheel rebuilt. It’s 8 speed Campy Record on a Mavic XCP33 rim. Talk about a super solid road [...]

Mountain Bike Action magazine finally got hold of the 2009 DW Link Turner Sultan for a review. Check it out here. To say they liked this do it all 29er is an understatement. Tree just got his and Doug’s will be here next week. Next delivery is late April/May ish.

shop time
Submitted by redstone underground
Thank goodness for the snow I guess. It’s given me a bit of time to catch up. For those from far away, we got 12+ inches of snow today. Good thing, too, as it’s been super dry up in these here hills. Talking tinderbox style just looking at the trees and brush. [...]
**edit**the sad parts
Submitted by Harvest The Ride
Hard crashes in recent weeks have left me dishevled and off the bike. Suffice to say, I am out on PMBAR 09. I’ve got a spot open if you want your soul crushed, or so they say.

Poker Success
Submitted by Harvest The Ride
The first AMBC Poker Derby was a huge success! As a result, more people are now aware of a club that is an advocate for bike trails and builds trails in Knoxville. Also, more people know of better bike routes through the fine city of Knoxville. And further, more people know [...]

My 2009 Race Bike!
Lala (Incycle) brought a white stem and bars to the race, Todd and I got them on in time to race. The warmup was a bit short, but I had a white stem! Incycle can get anything quickly, they usually have it in stock and can ship [...]
Rock envy
Submitted by Diary of Scott Morris
Paula hammered to finish her report cards so we could skip out of town early Friday. Destination: St. George, Utah.
It was primarily a family visit, and the first time in some time that all of my siblings have been together. Pretty special just for that, but I also managed to [...]
a classic
Submitted by redstone underground
Got this bike in recently for a tuneup. A 1984 Trek 850. Lugged Prestige tubing, 5 speed friction Shimano Deerhead. What could be more tricked out?
Oh, and it’s a great day because the Tamale Lady from Loveland just stoped by. woot!

A Technical Workout
Submitted by Diary of Scott Morris
After spending the first part of the week working out on the road (with eventual trail reward), I decided to flex the technical muscles.
This meant climbing my brains out on Gnat’s Ass trail. I had a good run, but my 36t granny cog (100% necessary on this climb for weaklings [...]
Full moon FSA
Submitted by Diary of Scott Morris
The sun sets. Time to attach lights and ride out from the house.
The crew, led by Mark Flint, pedals past on the river trail. I catch up.
The bats fly. Right on schedule.
A ghost rider coasts through the Sunrise Rd. culvert.
Jobie followed me on the B-lines, and rode most of them [...]
Tuesday Nights are good
Submitted by redstone underground
Since there were no strong feelings one way or another tonight, for the 2nd week in a row we tried our hand at fate. We spun the wheel of rides to see our destiny unfold in front of us.
Picture Rock was the command. We followed.
Tonight was also Tree’s virgin break in ride [...]

It is that time of year, races everywhere.

Heil Ranch, Picture Rock
Submitted by redstone underground
Doug and I just got back from a little session at Picture Rock. Up PR, left on the jerky Turkey, right on Ponderosa, right back onto Wild Turkey and back PR. It was good, to say the least.
There’s fun flowy curves
and cool land formations. Good views, too.
Anyone up for another Tuesday Ride? [...]

Big South Fork
The banjo was still ringing in my head as we broke the speed of fog, traveling to ride the sweet appalachian singletrack of Big South Fork. Jeff, Eric, Jonathon and myself were blown away by the Grand Gap loop. The trail flowed like it was cut by mountain bikers, [...]
I laugh at your little 29″ wheels
Submitted by redstone underground
Friend of the shop Marcus stopped by today to show off his new ride. This wasn’t a maiden voyage, but it’s still wet behind the ears. He was all smiles, too. Marcus and Tiny had started at Heil South, ridden to Lyons and were heading back after saying hi.
Here’s Tiny…
It’s hard to [...]
The Dark Side of the Harvest Moon
Submitted by Harvest The Ride
The stars seemed to be lined up for a perfect day at Windrock. Unexpected dry/tacky dirt in March on a 70 degree Sunday, and I had a hall-pass. Perfection right?
There were a couple of groups on the mountain running shuttle trucks; and Brian, Jay and myself hooked-up with Doug and the [...]
GR TT
Submitted by Diary of Scott Morris
I decided to try my luck at the GR Time Trial. It’s decidedly not an endurance time trial — the best time so far was:
“climb time” 27 minutes 30 seconds
“final time” 43 minutes 30 seconds
Making the descend time 16 minutes
I found myself pedaling up the Catalina Highway. I may or [...]
